Warm up for the Five Lamps Arts Festival 2024

Ceol na Cathrach (Music of the City) is a bilingual series of 4 gigs featuring traditional music and songs that celebrates the great talent of musicians in the city.

The gigs will take place at Annesley House every Wednesday, from March 20th – April 10th, in the lead up to The Five Lamps Arts Festival 2024, that happens from 11th to 20th April.

Two acts will perform at each gig and the series will compose the Ceol na Cathrach: An Ghig Mhór, where all of the acts that took part will come together to play in St. Columba’s National School, North Strand on Monday the 15th of April.

Beidh ceithre ghig ar siúl in The Annesley House sna seachtainí roimh The Five Lamps Arts Festival, 2024, tráthnónta Céadaoin ón 20ú de mhí an Mhárta go dtí 10ú lá de mhí Aibreáin ina mbeidh beirt cheoltóir nó dhá ghrúpa páirteach gach oíche. 

Tiocfaidh na ceoltóirí go léir le chéile a raibh páirteach sa tsraith don Ghig Mór in séipéal St. Columbas, sa Trá Thuaidh, a bheas ar siúl i rith na féile ar an 15ú lá de mhí Aibreáin.Tuilleadh eolais le teacht…Tá fáilte roimh chách. Bígí linn!

About the Artists

FLAF24 Traditional Music
Sinéad Kennedy

Traditional musician, radio broadcaster and multidisciplinary visual artist. Host of Queen of the Rushes, a weekly music radio program on internet station Do!! You!!! World. Resident musician in the Cobblestone Dublin (since 2014), where with Ellie Níc Fhionnghaile host a weekly fiddle session of Donegal music.

Méabh Mulligan

Singer and concertina player from Dublin, with a background steeped in tradition. Granddaughter of two renowned musicians: Micil Ned Quinn from Mullaghbawn, and Tom (TP) Mulligan, from Bornacoola. Méabh has performed at events around Ireland and abroad, with her band ‘The Len Collective’.

Ellie Nic Fhionnghaile

Traditional fiddle player and singer from Gleann Cholm Cille, Donegal. With repertoire  inspired by local musicians such as the late James Byrne, Mick Brown and Cití Seaín Uí Chuinneagáin.  Ellie is a native Irish speaker and music teacher and works as the Communications Officer with Na Píobairí Uilleann.

Áine and Aisling Lonergan 

Aisling and Áine, on box and fiddle, are sisters from North Dublin. They grew up playing music, with parents hailing from the premier county and teachers from as far flung places as Baltimore, Maryland and North Sligo (John Regan – accordion). Their music is inspired by the musicians they have met along the way.
