‘In the Vicinity of the Sun’ is a new work choreographed by John Scott, filmed and edited by award winning filmmaker Luca Truffarelli with music by Michael Scott. Commissioned by the Five Lamps Arts Festival and located around Dublin’s Five Lamps North Inner City area, ‘In the Vicinity of the Sun’ features a joyous celebratory group dance and seven solos by seven exceptional Irish based dancers of vastly diverse dance backgrounds, from Brazil, Dominican Republic, Ireland and Zimbabwe.
‘In the Vicinity of the Sun’ reflects seven diverse individuals expressing their feelings through their personal approaches to dance in urban locations, linked by water, railways, bridges, pathways – like stars in a solar system moving relative to the Sun. ‘In the Vicinity of the Sun’ was created at Dance Ireland and Dublin Central Mission and filmed on location and at Marino College of Further Education in strict observance of Government COVID-19 guidelines. Irish Modern Dance Theatre, celebrating 30 years of existence, is funded by the Arts Council, Culture Ireland and the Iris O’Brien Foundation. The Five Lamps Arts Festival is funded by the Arts Council, Dublin City Council, Dublin North East Inner City and Marino College of Further Education.
