School Workshops with Artist Martina Galvin

In collaboration with the Five Lamps, artist Martina Galvin hosted the “Stones & Pebbles” workshop with the wonderful children of two North Dublin schools: St. Mary’s National School in Fairview, and St. Vincent’s Girls National School on North William Street.

The event was about the fascinating and mysterious world of pebbles, crystals, stones and fossils.

The kids learnt about their many uses; how some become artworks, others decorate gardens, some become jewellery, and others are collected. And, of course, how they form part of our natural landscape on beaches, mountains and paths.

Then the paintbrushes and pencils came out, and the fun really started. 🙂

The school workshops teach a pertinent social message, too.

Every stone and pebble was different in terms of shape, colour, age and size. But all come from the same wider family – much like the children.

So, the event wasn’t just about having fun with paints and paintbrushes. It was also about showing diversity and inclusion through the medium of visual art and natural materials.

Thank you to Martina, the teachers and – of course – the kiddos from St. Mary’s and St. Vincent’s Girls schools.
