WELCOME TO THE FIVE LAMPS ARTS FESTIVAL

Greek National Day

Greek National Day

Poetry and song in Irish, Greek and English to celebrate Greece’s National Day, the contribution to the Greek independence of the Philhellene Thomas Moore and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Brendan Behan.

The songs in Behan’s The Hostage were set to music by Greece’s most famous composer, Mikis Theodoräkis, to lasting acclaim.

Joanne Harding, soprano, sings two songs from The Hostage, one in Greek and one in Irish, translated by Paddy Sammon.

With the Embassy of Greece, the Hellenic Community of Ireland and the Irish-Hellenic Society.
